Shipwrecked
Written by Ann Arbor playwright Jeff Duncan, the play Shipwrecked! is a
thrilling tale of
adventure on our dynamic inland seas. Set in 1893, it features a Detroit family of three--mom, dad,and 12 year old son--who carry cargo on the Great Lakes for their livelihood. They set sail on Lake Huron through "Shipwreck Alley" with a load of Christmas trees from the Upper Peninsula only to be battered by one of the fierce November storms that have over the years imperiled thousands of ships on the Great Lakes.

It's the Giving Season!
In the months of October and November, staff and students participated in Hats Off for Cancer. During this, we raised over $500 to donate to Susan G. Koman and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Awesome Job Bobcats!!!

Anti-Bullying Rally
Bunche held an Anti-Bullying rally in the month of October. Students were asked to wear orange in support of Bunche being a Bully Free Zone.
Bunche Gets Involved With.........
On October 8th and November 6th, students and staff at Bunche participated in Hats Off for Cancer. The goal was to raise money to provide children with cancer with hats. We had an awesome turn out. Great Job!!!
"Bunches of Butterflies"
Bunche Preparatory Academy would like to thank the volunteers from the U of M Business school for helping with our butterfly garden.
Late Start Fridays!!!
This year, Bunche Preparatory Academy will have late start on Fridays. School will begin at 9:50. Dismissal time will remain at 4:10 p.m. Bus students will picked up 1 hour later from their stops.

Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 school year. We are all really excited about the start of the school year. We hope to see all of our students on the first day. Our first open house will be September 24th, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend and meet the staff.
On Saturday, August 23rd, Bunche Preparatory Academy will be hosting an Open House from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. Parents and students are invited to come and see what all the excitement is about for the 2014 -2015 school year.

Bunche Gets Recognized for Going Green
Ralph J. Bunche Prep. Academy
This is the first year Bunche Academy is
participating in the DPS Go Green Challenge and they are leading the way in
project submissions and green attitudes. Dedicated Sustainability Coordinator,
Diana Koss, has been a champion for sustainability at her school for years and
is always looking for opportunities to go green.
Ms. Koss pioneered
classroom recycling in her building, taking on the personal duty of dropping
off the recycling collected in her classroom at a recycling center without the
aid of a school-wide program. During the Recycle Bowl Competition, Ms.Koss
partnered with the two other DPS Go Green Challenge coordinators at Bunche to
recycle an impressive 3,979 milk cartons, in addition to paper and plastic
materials. Bunche has completed every DPS Go Green Challenge released and
hosted classroom energy lessons with their 7th grade students focused on saving
energy in their building.
Bunche is dedicated to innovation, with a
multitude of programs encouraging technological integration and developing
student lifelong skill sets, the students are working on many projects aimed at
creating a sustainable, healthy, and thriving Detroit. Partnering with Belle
Isle programs, students are creating and designing nature trail brochures for
patrons and tracking native species. It is without question that Bunche is a
great addition to the DPS Go Green Challenge bringing the drive and passion to
going green.
